Clovelly ICU

The Intensive Care Unit at Clovelly Stables has a large team of specialist veterinarians, interns, nurses, and barn crew working together to provide 24-hour care for critically ill neonates, adults, and post-operative patients. Approximately 1000 patients are seen annually, including a high caseload of neonatal and adult medicine and post-surgical cases.

The Role

Stable Hands are required for our busy ICU Hospital in the Upper Hunter Valley. Applicants must be able to perform the physical requirements of the role (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling) and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Previous horse experience is preferred and the ability to confidently work around young unbroken horses is desirable.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in horse husbandry (mucking out, feeding, watering)
  • Power wash, garden and perform general maintenance
  • Drivers licence preferred but not essential
  • Work effectively in a small team

There are a variety of nursing roles that are stimulating and fast paced but well supported by an experienced team of specialists, interns, nurses and a hospital coordinator. These positions would suit both early-in-career nurses and experienced nurses looking to take the next step in their equine nursing careers and to gain experience in a high case load hospital.

Scientific Officer

  • Full diagnostic laboratory
  • Opportunity to work in multiple areas (cytology, haematology, biochem, micro)

Laboratory

Our laboratory is located in state-of-the-art facilities at the Hunter Valley Equine Research Centre. The lab provides a 24-hour service for assessment of a wide range of samples and specimens to assist the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.

This service is supported by specialists in equine veterinary medicine who interpret laboratory results for primary care and referring veterinarians.

The Role

Our laboratory has a seasonal Scientific Officer position available (August - December). We are looking for someone who is motivated, reliable and flexible with a commitment to customer satisfaction. Participation in an after-hours roster with the ability to work unsupervised will be required.

Skills and Experience

  • Customer Focus (external and internal)
  • Experience in haematology, biochemistry and microbiology
  • Driver’s license is essential
  • Tertiary qualifications in laboratory science or equine science are required
